Danyal Redwan

Danyal Redwan is a Singapore-based designer and brand consultant, and the co-founder and Creative Director of Wherefore, a brand strategy and design studio with offices in Singapore, Bandung and Bangkok. He trained as a product designer, a discipline with little tolerance for decoration: an object either does its job or it doesn't. That training left him with a habit he has never lost, which is to ask what something is for before deciding how it should look. In 2022 he and Teddy founded Wherefore on that principle. Why before how. Over nearly a decade, Danyal has worked with non-profits, government agencies, SMEs and global brands, including Google, Grab, KPMG and CDAC. The briefs vary. The underlying question rarely does: how does an organisation get understood, not just seen? He has watched well-run institutions be misread because their brand told a different story from the one they were living, and modest ones grow once the two were aligned. That gap between internal conviction and public expression is the problem he finds most worth solving. His way of working is deliberately unglamorous at the start. Before any identity work begins, he spends time with leadership, staff and customers to find out what the organisation actually believes and where that belief shows up in practice. The reward comes later, when every design decision has a reason a client can explain to their own board without a designer in the room. Wherefore holds Practising Management Consultant certification and is an accredited Enterprise Development Grant consultant, a reflection of the studio's view that brand work is management work. In 2025 Danyal was invited to speak at the Communication Design programme at RMIT University in Melbourne, and in 2026 he returned as a judge for its graduate showcase. He takes both seriously, partly because the questions students ask are often the ones practitioners have stopped asking themselves. Beyond the studio, he believes the best things are built with people: communities, long relationships, and the stories that surface when you stay in a room long enough to hear them. He lives and works in Singapore.
